REMOVAL

CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

NOTE:

• This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
• This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

1.

NOTE: If equipped.

Use the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment to depressurize the air suspension.

2. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

3. Remove the wheel and tire.

4.

WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.

• Apply the foot brake.
• Remove and discard the halfshaft nut.

5.

• Remove the 2 bolts.
• Reposition the brake hose and sensor wiring harness away from the wheel knuckle.

6.

• Remove and discard the stabilizer bar link upper nut.
• Reposition the stabilizer bar link away from the wheel knuckle.

7.

Use a suitable stand to support the lower arm.

General Equipment: Vehicle/axle stands

8.

• Remove the 2 bolts.
• Remove the air duct.

9.

Loosen, but do not fully remove the tie-rod end nut.

10.

• Use the special tool to release the tie-rod end from the wheel knuckle.

  Special Tool(s): JLR-204-793A

• Remove and discard the tie-rod end nut.
• Reposition the tie-rod end away from the wheel knuckle.

11.

Remove and discard the upper arm ball joint nut and bolt.

12.

Use the special tool to release the upper arm ball joint.

Special Tool(s): JLR-204-803

13.

Install the special tools.

Special Tool(s): 204-506/1, 204-506/2, 204-506/3, 204-506/5

14.

Use the special tool to release the halfshaft.

15. Remove the special tools.

Special Tool(s): 204-506/1, 204-506/2, 204-506/3, 204-506/5

16.

CAUTION:

• Take care not to damage the halfshaft seal.
• Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

Remove the halfshaft from the differential.

17.

Remove and discard the halfshaft circlip.

INSTALLATION

1.

Install a new circlip to the halfshaft.

Renew Part: Circlip Quantity: 1.

2. Clean and inspect the seal. Replace if damaged or worn.

3.

CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the seal.

Install the halfshaft.

4. Install the halfshaft into the wheel knuckle.

5.

• Install the upper arm ball joint into the wheel knuckle.
• Remove the special tool.

  Special Tool(s): JLR-204-803

• Install a new nut and bolt.

  Renew Part: Front suspension upper arm ball joint to knuckle nut and bolt Quantity: 1.

  Torque: 70Nm

6.

Remove the supporting stand from under the lower arm.

General Equipment: Vehicle/axle stands

7.

• Install the tie-rod end.
• Install and tighten the new nut.

  Renew Part: Tie-rod end nut Quantity: 1.

  Torque: 140Nm

8.

• Install the air duct.
• Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

  Torque: 10Nm

9.

• Install the stabilizer bar link.
• Install and tighten the new stabilizer bar link nut.

  Torque: 185Nm

10.

WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.

• Apply and hold the footbrake.
• Install and tighten the new halfshaft nut.

  Renew Part: Front halfshaft nut Quantity: 1.

  Torque

  • Stage1: 120Nm
  • Stage2: 60º

11. Install the wheel and tire.

NOTE: If equipped.

Use the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment to pressurize the air suspension.
