REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Locking Tool, Crankshaft Pulley

REMOVAL

NOTES:

• This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
• This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

2. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

3. Remove the charge air cooler.

4. Remove the transmission.

5.

Release the wiring harness clip.

6.

• Remove the 2 nuts.
• Release the transmission cooler pipes.

7.

• Release the 4 wiring harness clips.
• Reposition the wiring harness away from the bracket.

8.

• Remove the 2 bolts.
• Remove the bracket.

9.

CAUTIONS:

• Only rotate the crankshaft clockwise.
• The four locating pegs of the special tool must be installed correctly into the crankshaft pulley.

Install the special tool.

Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1630

10.

• Install the remaining components of the special tool as illustrated.
• Use the special tool to lock the crankshaft in position.

11.

• Remove and discard the 8 bolts.
• Remove the drive plate.

INSTALLATION

1.

CAUTION: Do not insert the bottoming tap more than the depth of the threaded holes (16mm). Apply tape to the bottoming tap 16mm from the end as a visual guide.

Use a suitable bottoming tap to clean the threads.

2.

• Install the drive plate.
• Install and tighten the 8 new bolts.

  Renew Part: Drive plate bolts Quantity: 8.

  Torque

  • Stage1: 30Nm
  • Stage2: 120º

3. Remove the special tool.

4.

• Install the bracket.
• Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

  Torque: 40Nm

5.

• Position the wiring harness in the correct location.
• Install the 4 wiring harness clips.

6.

• Install the transmission cooler pipes.
• Install and tighten the 2 nuts.

  Torque: 12Nm

• Install the wiring harness clip.

7. Install the transmission.

8. Install the charge air cooler.

9. Connect the startup battery ground cable.
