Land Rover Defender: Camshafts - Engine Set
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
REMOVAL
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
2. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
3. Remove the camshaft carrier.

CAUTION:
Note the installed position of the component(s) prior to removal.
- Loosen the bolts 1 turn at a time in the illustrated sequence.
- Remove the 5 camshaft bearing caps.
- Remove the intake camshaft.

Note the installed position of the component(s) prior to removal.
- Loosen the bolts 1 turn at a time in the illustrated sequence.
- Remove the 5 camshaft bearing caps.
- Remove the exhaust camshaft.
INSTALLATION
1.
- Lubricate the components with clean engine oil.
- Install the intake camshaft to the noted removal position.
- Install and tighten the 10 bolts in the illustrated sequence.
Torque: 11Nm
2.
- Lubricate the components with clean engine oil.
- Install the exhaust camshaft to the noted removal position.
- Install and tighten the 10 bolts in the illustrated sequence.
Torque: 11Nm
3. Install the camshaft carrier.
4. Connect the startup battery ground cable.

CAUTIONS:
Take extra care not to damage the wiring harness clips.
Make sure that the wiring harness is not twisted or damaged on
removal. Failure to follow this instruction
may result in damage to the vehicle.
NOTES:
Note the position of the wiring harnesses
When washing the vehicle, do not aim
high pressure water jets directly at any of
the sensors and cameras. Do not use
abrasive materials or hard/sharp objects,
to clean the sensors and cameras. Only
use approved vehicle shampoo. Using
unapproved cleaning equipment or
