GENERAL EQUIPMENT

REMOVAL

CAUTION: Nuts and bolts must be tightened with vehicle at normal ride height.

NOTES:

• This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
• This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2-post lift.

2. Use the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic system, to depressurize the air spring at the relevant corner.

3. Remove the rear wheel and tire assembly.

4.

CAUTION: Do not use air tools to remove the halfshaft nut.

NOTE: Retain the nut for the installation procedure.

Remove the rear halfshaft nut.

5.

Release the height sensor from the rear lower control arm.

6.

Remove the rear brake disc.

7.

• Remove the 3 bolts.
• Remove the rear brake disc shield.

8.

• Remove the bolt.
• Release the wheel speed sensor from the rear wheel knuckle.

9.

• Remove and discard the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
• Remove the 2 rear lower control arm to rear wheel knuckle links.

10.

• Remove and discard the nut and bolt.
• Release the rear tie-rod from the rear wheel knuckle.

11.

CAUTION: To prevent the wheel knuckle falling outwards and disconnection of the halfshaft inner joint, support the wheel knuckle.

• Remove and discard the nut and bolt.
• Release the rear shock absorber from the rear wheel knuckle.
• Remove and discard the bolt.
• Release the rear lower control arm from the rear wheel knuckle.
• Use a suitable transmission jack to support the rear wheel knuckle.

  General Equipment: Transmission jack

CAUTION: Do not use a hammer to detach the halfshaft from the hub assembly, failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the halfshaft.

• Remove and discard the nut and bolt.
• Release the rear upper control arm from the rear wheel knuckle.
• Use the special tool, to release the halfshaft from the rear wheel knuckle.

  Special Tool(s): 204-506/1, 204-506/3, 204-506/5

• Remove the rear wheel knuckle.
• Remove the special tool from the rear wheel knuckle.

13.

• Remove the bolt.
• Remove and discard the rear lower control arm to rear wheel knuckle nut.

INSTALLATION

1.

• Install the new rear lower control arm to rear wheel knuckle nut.

  Renew Part: Rear lower arm to knuckle nut Quantity: 1.

• Install and tighten the bolt.

2.

• Install the rear wheel knuckle.
• Use the special tool to install, the rear halfshaft to the rear wheel knuckle.

  Special Tool(s): 204-506/1, 204-506/2, 204-506/3, 204-506/5

• Secure the rear upper control arm to the rear wheel knuckle.
• Install and tighten the rear upper control arm to the rear wheel knuckle bolt and nut.

  Renew Part: Rear upper arm to wheel knuckle nut and bolt Quantity: 1.

  Torque

  • Stage1: 50Nm
  • Stage2: 60º
• Remove the special tool from the rear wheel knuckle.

3.

• Secure the rear lower control arm to the rear wheel knuckle.
• Install and tighten rear lower control arm to rear wheel knuckle bolt.

  Renew Part: Rear lower arm to knuckle bolt Quantity: 1.

  Torque

  • Stage1: 70Nm
  • Stage2: 240º
• Secure the rear shock absorber to the rear wheel knuckle.
• Install and tighten the rear shock absorber to rear wheel knuckle bolt and nut.

  Renew Part: Shock absorber to wheel knuckle mounting nut and bolt Quantity: 1.

  Torque

  • Stage1: 100Nm
  • Stage2: 240º
• Remove the transmission jack.

  General Equipment: Transmission jack

4.

• Secure the rear tie-rod to the rear wheel knuckle.
• Install and tighten the rear tie-rod to the rear wheel knuckle bolt and nut.

  Renew Part: Tie-rod nut and bolt Quantity: 1.

  Torque

  • Stage1: 70Nm

5.

• Install the rear lower control arm to rear wheel knuckle links.
• Install and tighten the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.

  Renew Part: Rear lower arm to knuckle nut and bolt Quantity: 2.

  Torque

  • Stage1: 50Nm
  • Stage2: 180º

6.

• Secure the wheel speed sensor to the rear wheel knuckle.
• Install and tighten the wheel speed sensor to rear wheel knuckle bolt.

  Torque: 9Nm

7.

• Install the rear brake disc shield.
• Install and tighten the 3 rear brake disc shield to rear wheel knuckle bolts.

  Torque: 9Nm

8. Install the rear brake disc.

9. Secure the height sensor link to the rear lower arm.

10.

CAUTION: Do not use air tools to install the half shaft nut.

NOTE: Apply the brake pedal during the installation of the halfshaft nut.

Install and tighten the old halfshaft nut.

Torque: 175Nm

11.

CAUTION: Do not use air tools to remove the half shaft nut.

NOTE: Apply the brake pedal during the removal of the halfshaft nut.

Remove the old halfshaft nut.

12.

CAUTION: Do not use air tools to install the half shaft nut.

NOTE: Apply the brake pedal during the installation of the halfshaft nut.

Install and tighten the new halfshaft nut.

Renew Part: Rear halfshaft nut Quantity: 1.

Torque

• Stage1: 120Nm
• Stage2: 60º

13. Remove the rear wheel and tire assembly.

14. Use the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic system, to pressurise the air suspension.

15. Use the JLR approved diagnostic system, to calibrate the suspension ride height.
