Land Rover Defender: Transmission Control Switch - Removal and Installation
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
REMOVAL
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
- This procedure contains illustrations for left side components, right
side components are similar.
1. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the instrument panel passenger outer side trim.
3.
CAUTION:
Take extra care not to damage the component.

- Remove the bolt.
- Release the instrument panel lower surround from the 10 clips.

- Remove the 2 screws.
- Release the trim panel from the 2 clips.

- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Remove the trim panel.

NOTE:
Take care not to damage the wiring harness when removing the Transmission
Control Switch (TCS).

- Remove the 4 screws.
- Remove the Transmission Control Switch (TCS).
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
INSTALLATION
1.
NOTE:
Take care not to damage the wiring harness when installing the Transmission
Control Switch
(TCS).
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Install the Transmission Control Switch (TCS).
- Install and tighten the 4 screws.
Torque: 3.2Nm
2.
- Connect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Install the trim panel.
3.
- Install the trim panel to the 2 clips.
- Install and tighten the 2 screws.
4.
CAUTION:
Take extra care not to damage the component.
- Install the instrument panel lower surround to the 10 clips.
- Install and tighten the bolt.
5.
- Install the instrument panel outer side trim.
- Install and tighten the 4 bolts.
6. Connect the startup battery ground cable.
7. Use the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment to configure
the new TCM.
