REMOVAL

WARNING: To prevent accidental deployment, you must power down the Restraints Control Module (RCM). Wait at least 1 minute after you disconnect the startup battery ground cable before you do any work on the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS). If you do not follow these instructions, it can cause injury or death.

NOTE:

1. Make sure the steering column is in service position.

2. Make sure the SRS is safe.

3. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

4. Remove the instrument panel lower trim.

5. Remove the clockspring.

CAUTION: Note the position of the bolts, prior to removal.

INSTALLATION

1.

CAUTIONS:

  • Make sure that the bolts are installed to the noted removal position.
  • Make sure that the steering column intermediate shaft Universal Joint (UJ) thread is clean and free of foreign material.
  • Make sure that the steering column intermediate shaft gets installed to the position noted in the removal steps.

3. Install the clockspring.

4. Install the instrument panel lower trim.

5. Connect the startup battery ground cable.

6. If a new component has been installed, configure that component with the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment.

REMOVAL

NOTE:

1. Make sure the steering column is in service position.

2. Make sure the airbag Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) is safe.

3. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

4. Remove the clockspring.

5. Remove the instrument panel lower trim.

NOTE: Only do the following step(s) if a new component is to be installed.

INSTALLATION

1.

NOTE: Only do the following step(s) if the component was previously removed.

2.

NOTES:

  • Make sure that the steering column intermediate shaft Universal Joint (UJ) thread is clean and free of foreign material.
  • Make sure that the steering column intermediate shaft gets installed to the position noted in the removal steps.
  • Make sure that the bolts are installed to the noted removal position.

4. Install the instrument panel lower trim.

5. Install the clockspring.

6. Connect the startup battery ground cable.

7. If new ESCL installed, configure the component with the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment.
