Land Rover Defender: Oil Filter Housing

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

REMOVAL

WARNING: The spilling of hot engine oil is unavoidable during this procedure, care must be taken to prevent scalding.

NOTE:

• This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
• This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

1. Remove the engine cover.

2. Remove the oil filter element.

3.

• Disconnect the electrical connector.
• Remove the oil pressure and temperature sensor.

4.

• Remove the bolt.
• Disconnect the oil pipe from the oil filter housing and discard the sealing washers.

5.

Remove the 3 bolts and the oil filter housing.

6.

Remove and discard the 5 O-ring seals.

INSTALLATION

1. Install the 5 new O-ring seals.

2. Install the oil filter housing and the 3 bolts.

• Install a new bolt and sealing washers to the oil pipe.

  Renew Part: Turbocharger oil supply pipe banjo bolt Quantity: 1.

  Renew Part: Oil supply pipe sealing washers Quantity: 2.

• Connect the oil pipe to the oil filter housing and install the bolt.

  Torque: 18Nm

4. Install the oil pressure and temperature sensor.

Torque: 15Nm

5. Install the oil filter element.

6. Install the engine cover.
