Land Rover Defender: Auxilliary Thermostatic Expansion Valve

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

REMOVAL

CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all components must be sealed.

NOTES:

• This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
• This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

1. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

2. Remove the auxiliary climate control assembly.

3.

• Release the wiring harness from the clip.
• Remove the screw.
• Remove the auxiliary Thermostatic Expansion Valve (TXV) cover.

4.

• Disconnect the electrical connector from the auxiliary TXV.
• Remove the 2 bolts.
• Remove the spacer.
• Remove and discard the 2 O-ring seals.

5.

• Remove the auxiliary TXV.
• Remove and discard the 2 O-ring seals.

INSTALLATION

1.

NOTE: Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil.

• Install the 2 new O-ring seals to the 2 Air Conditioning (A/C) pipes.

  Renew Part: Thermostatic expansion valve O-ring seal(s) Quantity: 2.

• Install the auxiliary TXV to the auxiliary climate control assembly.
• Install the 2 new O-ring seals to the spacer.

  Renew Part: Thermostatic expansion valve O-ring seal(s) Quantity: 2.

• Install the spacer to the auxiliary TXV.
• Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

  Torque: 4Nm

2.

• Connect the electrical connector to the auxiliary TXV.
• Install the auxiliary TXV cover.
• Install and tighten the screw.

  Torque: 1.2Nm

• Install the wiring harness to the clip.

3. Install the auxiliary climate control assembly.

4. Connect the startup battery ground cable.
