GENERAL EQUIPMENT

CAUTION: New transmission assemblies are supplied pre-filled with transmission fluid.

NOTES:

• This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
• This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.

• Steps 3 to 14 are only required if the components were previously removed.

1.

NOTE: This step is only required if a new transmission is to be installed.

Remove the 3 bolts and the torque converter transportation brace.

2.

Make sure the torque converter is installed to the measurements show.

3.

Install the transmission plug.

4.

• Install the Emergency Park Release (EPR) lever.
• Install and tighten the nut.

  Torque: 12Nm

5.

• Install the 3 heatshields.
• Install and tighten the 2 screws.
• Install the 4 clips.

6.

• Install the heatshield.
• Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

  Torque: 9Nm

7.

• Install the catalytic converter to transmission mounting bracket.
• Install and tighten the 3 bolts.

  Torque: 25Nm

8.

WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician

• Install the transfer case.
• Use the special tool to install and tighten the 8 bolts.

  Special Tool(s): 303-1069.

  Torque: 40Nm

• Remove the transmission jack.

  General Equipment: Transmission jack

9.

Install the transmission wiring harness.

10.

• Install and tighten the 2 wiring harness bracket bolts.

  Torque: 25Nm

• Install the wiring harness clip.
• Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.

11.

• Install the heatshield.
• Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

  Torque: 8Nm

12.

• Connect the transmission electrical connector.
• Install and tighten the wiring harness bolt.

  Torque: 10Nm

13.

• Install the wiring harness clip.
• Install the wiring harness bolt.

  Torque: 10Nm

14.

WARNING: To prevent water ingress and subsequent transmission damage, make sure that the breather is fully installed into the transmission casing. The white line around the circumference of the pipe should not be visible when correctly installed.

• Install the 2 breather pipes.
• Install the wiring harness clip.

15.

WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.

CAUTION: Make sure that the torque converter remains in the transmission.

Install the transmission assembly.

16.

Install and tighten the 2 lower transmission to engine bolts.

Torque: 40Nm

17.

Install and tighten the 4 right side transmission to engine bolts.

Torque: 40Nm

18.

Install and tighten the 4 left side transmission to engine bolts.

Torque: 40Nm

19.

CAUTION: Only rotate the engine clockwise.

Install and tighten the 4 new torque converter bolts.

Renew Part: Torque converter bolts Quantity: 4.

Torque: 70Nm

20.

• Position the ground cable in the correct location.
• Install and tighten the bolt.

  Torque: 25Nm

21.

• Connect the transmission to body wiring harness electrical connector.
• Install the 2 transmission wiring harness clips.

22.

• Position the breather pipe in the correct location.
• Install and tighten the nut.

  Torque: 22Nm

23.

• Install the EPR cable to the EPR lever.
• Install the 2 EPR cable clips.
• Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

  Torque: 10Nm

24.

• Install the 2 new O-ring seals to the transmission fluid cooler pipes.
• Install the 2 transmission fluid cooler pipes.

  Renew Part: Transmission fluid cooler tubes to transmission O-ring seals Quantity: 2.

• Install and tighten the bolt.

  Torque: 22.5Nm

25.

• Position the solenoid in the correct location.
• Install and tighten the bolt.

  Torque: 22Nm

26.

• Install the Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF) pressure sensor.
• Install and tighten the nut.

  Torque: 22Nm

• Install the solenoid electrical connector.
• Install the wiring harness clip.

27. Install the front driveshaft.

Remove the transmission jack.

General Equipment: Transmission jack

29. Install the starter motor.

30. Connect the rear driveshaft.

31. Install the catalytic converter.

32.

Remove the engine support beam and the engine support adapter.

Remove the Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1692, JLR-303-1692-04

33.

• Remove the 2 bolts.
• Remove the 2 engine compartment braces.

34.

• Remove the 4 bolts.
• Remove the special tools.

  Remove the Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1713

35.

• Remove the 2 bolts.
• Remove the special tool.

  Remove the Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1569

36.

• Install the purge valve.
• Connect the electrical connector.

37.

Install the breather pipes to the 3 clips.

38. Install the secondary bulkhead center panel.

39. Connect the startup battery ground cable.

40. Check the transmission fluid level.

41. Use the suitable Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment to configure the new transmission.
