Land Rover Defender: Integrated Air Compressor

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

WARNING: Accessories which are not correctly installed can be dangerous. Read the instructions carefully prior to installation. Comply with instructions at all times. If in doubt, contact your nearest approved retailer.

CAUTION: Make sure to protect the vehicle paintwork and trim.

NOTES:

Integrated Air Compressor

REMOVAL

1. Open the tailgate.

2. Disconnect the start up battery ground cable. Ask your Jaguar Land Rover Retailer for a copy of this instruction if you do not have access to TOPIx.

3. Remove the left side loadspace trim panel. Ask your Jaguar Land Rover Retailer for a copy of this instruction if you do not have access to TOPIx.

INSTALLATION

1.

NOTE: Retain the 2 nuts (S1) as illustrated.

Integrated Air Compressor

Aside the amplifier module bracket as illustrated.

  1. Remove and retain the 2 nuts (S1).
  2. Loosen the 2 nuts.
  3. Slide the amplifier module bracket aside as far as the arrowed slots will allow.

NOTE: Make sure you have all the extra length of the lead (C) coming from the behind the top of the amplifier module bracket.

Integrated Air Compressor

Feed the electrical link lead (C) behind the amplifier module bracket.

  1. Secure the electrical link lead (C) to the vehicle harness using the cable ties.

CAUTION: Do not remove the orange colored connector.

NOTE: The electrical connector (S2) will be used again during install step 6. Note the orientation of the electrical wiring before removal as this will help when the connector is used again.

Integrated Air Compressor

Carefully release and retain the gray colored electrical connector (S2) from the electrical link lead (C).

4.

NOTE: Do not install the 2 nuts (S1).

Integrated Air Compressor

Move the amplifier module bracket to the correct position. Tighten the 2 nuts as illustrated.

5.

CAUTIONS:

Integrated Air Compressor

Release the pins to remove the brown electrical connector from the vehicle wiring harness as illustrated.

Discard the connector.

6.

CAUTION: Make sure that the wiring is correctly installed as recorded from install step 3.

Integrated Air Compressor

Install the male electrical connector (S2) to the vehicle wiring harness as illustrated. Connect the pins as below.

  1. Black to Black.
  2. Yellow / Purple to Brown.

7.

CAUTION: Install, but do not fully tighten the 2 nuts (H).

Install the bracket leg (M) to the integrated air compressor bracket (B) using the 2 nuts (H) and the 2 washers (J).

8.

NOTE: This step is only applicable to vehicles with 90 wheelbase (some parts not shown for clarity).

Integrated Air Compressor

Remove and retain screw (S3).

NOTES:

Integrated Air Compressor

Using existing screw (S3) attach bracket (N) where illustrated.

CAUTION: Follow the step carefully to prevent damage to the components.

NOTES:

Integrated Air Compressor

Install the integrated air compressor bracket (B) to the rear studs as illustrated.

  1. Make sure the amplifier module bracket is at the slot position as illustrated.
  2. Install the integrated air compressor bracket (B) over the rear studs. If the bracket does not fit over the studs then modify the lower bracket hole as required. If the spacer, that is located to the rear of the bracket, is either removed or damaged during this step then replace the spacer with suitable washers or an alternative spacer of an equal thickness.
  3. Use the 2 nuts (S1) to secure both brackets in the correct position.
  4. Torque: 10 Nm

Integrated Air Compressor

Secure the bracket leg (M) as illustrated.

  1. Slide the bracket leg (M) that is part of the bracket (B) downward so the bracket leg locates onto the arrowed vehicle stud.
  2. Tighten the 2 nuts (H). Torque: 10 Nm

NOTE: This step is only applicable to vehicles with 110 wheelbase.

Integrated Air Compressor

Install top right of bracket (B) to existing low frequency antenna bracket with fixings (H), (J) and (K) as illustrated.

13.

NOTE: This step is only applicable to vehicles with 90 wheelbase.

Integrated Air Compressor

Install top right of bracket (B) to already installed bracket (N) with fixings (J) and (K) as illustrated.

14.

Integrated Air Compressor

Feed the connector and the end of the electrical link lead (C) through the bracket as illustrated.

15.

NOTE: Check that you have sufficient length on link lead C so that connector will reach the air compressor.

Integrated Air Compressor

Connect the electrical connector (S2) to the link lead (C) as illustrated.

16. Make sure power is available to the accessory connector before continuing with the install.

17. Connect link harness to air compressor cover to check the display works.

  1. Connect battery.
  2. Connect link harness to air compressor.
  3. Check display works.
  4. Disconnect link harness to air compressor.
  5. Disconnect battery.

18.

NOTE: Both 90 and 110 use the same measurements.

Integrated Air Compressor

Use suitable tooling to measure and mark the 4 locations as illustrated.

19.

WARNING: Make sure to wear suitable personal protective equipment.

Integrated Air Compressor

Drill a hole at the 4 marked locations.

  1. 35 mm drill bit
  2. 22 mm drill bit

20. Install the left side loadspace trim panel. Ask your Jaguar Land Rover Retailer for a copy of this instruction if you do not have access to TOPIx.

21.

Integrated Air Compressor

Carefully feed the electrical link lead (C) through the hole.

Prepare the 3 vehicle studs as illustrated.

  1. Install the spacer (G).
  2. Install the foam washer (L).

23.

Integrated Air Compressor

Install the compressor assembly (A) onto the 3 studs. Feed the electrical link lead (C) through the air compressor assembly.

24.

NOTE: Install, but do not fully tighten the 3 nuts (F).

Integrated Air Compressor

Install the fixings to the 3 studs in the sequence as illustrated.

  1. Install the foam washer (L).
  2. Install the washer (I).
  3. Install but do not fully tighten the retaining nut (F).

25.

Integrated Air Compressor

Make sure the air compressor is correctly positioned against the loadspace left trim panel as illustrated.

Integrated Air Compressor

Tighten the 3 retaining nuts (F).

27.

NOTE: Listen for "click" when connectors attach.

Integrated Air Compressor

Install the integrated air compressor cover (D).

  1. Connect the 3 electrical connectors.
  2. Check the connections are secure.
  3. Install the air compressor cover by engaging the 6 retaining clips.

28. Connect the start up battery ground cable. Ask your Jaguar Land Rover Retailer for a copy of this instruction if you do not have access to TOPIx.

29.

Integrated Air Compressor

Install the integrated air compressor air line (E).

  1. Release the quick release.
  2. Engage the quick release.

30.

WARNING: The accessory socket MUST not be used when using the air compressor.

NOTE: Make sure vehicle engine is running before operating the air compressor.

Operating commands.

  1. On Mode: 1x short press.
  2. Increase set pressure: Rotation clockwise.
  3. Decrease set pressure: Rotation counter-clockwise.
  4. Set value (stop flashing): 1x short press when pressure value is flashing.
  5. Manual inflation/deflation mode (start/stop): 1x short press when pressure value is not flashing.
  6. Measure mode: 5x short press.
  7. Change unit (Psi/Bar): 3x short press.
  8. Off mode:1x long press (5 sec). Unit will automatically switch off after 5 minutes of inactivity.

31. With the ignition on make sure that the integrated air compressor is operating correctly.
