Locking Ring, Fuel Tank

GENERAL EQUIPMENT

DRAINING

WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.

CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

NOTE:

• This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
• This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

1. Always follow the fuel system health and safety precautions when doing any repairs to the fuel system.

2. Open the fuel flap and remove the cap.

3. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

4. Remove the second row seat.

5.

Reposition the carpet for access.

6.

• Remove the 5 nuts.
• Reposition the wiring harness.

7.

Disconnect the 2 fuel pump module electrical connectors.

8.

Disconnect the breather pipe.

9.

Disconnect the 2 fuel pipes.

10.

Use the special tool to remove the fuel pump module retaining ring.

11.

Note the position of the fuel pump module before removal.

• Reposition the fuel pump module to allow access for the fuel drainig equipment.
• Remove and discard the O-ring seal.

13.

CAUTION: Take care not to damage the fuel tank internal components.

• Connect the fuel tank draining equipment to the vehicle in accordance with the manufactures instructions.

• Insert the fuel tank draining equipment into the fuel tank and start the draining process.

FILLING

1. Remove the fuel tank draining equipment from the fuel tank.

2.

• Install a new fuel pump module seal.

  Renew Part: Fuel pump O-ring seal Quantity: 1.

3.

• Reposition the fuel pump module in the correct position.
• Use the special tool to install the fuel pump module retaining ring.

4. Connect the 2 fuel pipes.

5. Connect the breather pipe.

6. Connect the 2 fuel pump module electrical connectors.

7.

• Reposition the wiring harness.
• Install and tighten the 5 nuts.

  Torque: 6Nm

8. Reposition the carpet.

9. Install the second row seat.

10.

• Refill the fuel tank.

  General Equipment: Fuel retrieval and storage system

• Remove the fuel tank draining equipment from the vehicle.
• Install the cap and close the fuel flap.

11.

• Start the engine and allow to idle for 2 minutes.
• Use the approved Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) diagnostic equipment to read and clear any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
