Land Rover Defender: Front Row Center Seatbelt Retractor

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

REMOVAL

NOTE:

• This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
• This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

1. Remove the front row center seat.

2.

• Disconnect the electrical connector.
• Release the 3 wiring harness clips.
• Remove and discard the seatbelt buckle bolt.
• Remove the front row center seatbelt buckle.

Remove the 2 screws.

4.

Remove the seatbelt guide trim.

5.

CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the clips.

Release the seat rear trim from the 5 clips.

6.

• Disconnect the 4 electrical connectors.
• Remove the seat rear trim panel.

7.

Release the seat cushion cover from the clip.

8.

Release the seat cushion cover from the 6 clips.

9.

CAUTIONS:

• Extreme care must be taken when removing and installing the trim. Excessive force may result in damage to the component.
• Take extra care not to damage the clips.

NOTES:

• Take extra care when releasing the clips.
• Repeat this step for the other side.

• Release the trim panel from the lower tab.
• Release the trim panel from the 6 clips.
• Release the trim panel from the lower clip.
• Release the trim panel from the 2 upper tabs.
• Remove the seat side trim panel.

Remove the seat cushion cover, as shown in the illustration.

11.

Remove and discard the bolt.

12.

Disconnect the electrical connector.

13.

Feed the seatbelt through the seat.

14.

• Remove and discard the bolt.
• Remove the front row center seatbelt retractor.

INSTALLATION

1.

• Install the front row center seatbelt retractor.
• Install and tighten the new bolt.

  Renew Part: Seatbelt buckle bolt(s) Quantity: 1.

  Torque: 40Nm

2. Feed the seatbelt through the seat.

3. Connect the electrical connector.

4. Install and tighten a new bolt.

Renew Part: Seatbelt buckle bolt(s) Quantity: 1.

Torque: 25Nm

5. Install the seat cushion cover.

CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the clips.

NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.

• Install the seat side trim panel.
• Install the trim panel to the 2 upper tabs.
• Install the trim panel lower clip.
• Install the trim panel to the 6 clips.
• Install the trim panel to the lower tab.

7. Install the 6 seat cushion cover clips.

8. Install the seat cushion cover clip.

9.

• Position the seat rear trim panel in the correct location.
• Connect the 4 electrical connectors.

10. Install the seat rear trim to the 5 clips.

11. Install the seatbelt guide trim.

12. Install and tighten the 2 screws.

13.

• Install the front row center seatbelt buckle.
• Install the 3 wiring harness clips.
• Connect the electrical connector.
• Install and tighten the new seatbelt buckle bolt.

  Renew Part: Seatbelt buckle bolt(s) Quantity: 1.

  Torque: 25Nm

14. Install the front row center seat.
