OVERVIEW

The message center is located in the IPC.

On the IPC conventional display, the message center is in a central position between the speedometer and the tachometer. The 7 inch Thin Film Transistor (TFT) display can be reconfigured to prioritize and refine the information presented to the driver.

NOTE: The functions are only available when the virtual IPC is installed in the vehicle.

The IPC virtual display allows a full digital display. The same information is available, the layout of the display is slightly different. The standard position for the message center is in the center of the display which may be moved around depending on the user selected view.

The message center displays vehicle related information to the driver, for example, engine temperature and fuel level.

DESCRIPTION

MESSAGE CENTER

The message center is a TFT screen located in the center of the IPC conventional display. Other information displayed in this area is temporarily removed to allow for the message to be displayed.

The standard position for the message center in the IPC virtual display is located in the center of the display.

The messages are displayed in priority order (if more than 1 message is present) for approximately 4 seconds as the event occurs. The messages can be cleared afer the 4 seconds by pressing the 'O' switch on the left Steering Wheel Switch. The driver can view current system status messages in the message center. In Power Mode 6 (ignition ON) the warning messages can be displayed using the 'Show Warnings' selection of the 'Display' in the main menu. The menu is not available while warnings are displayed, the warnings must be cleared before the main menu can be accessed.

The messages may be accompanied by an icon.

The left SWS contains the controls for the IPC menu selection. The IPC display settings and some vehicle features can be configured using the IPC menu. Press the 'O' icon to display the IPC menu, and the IPC menu controls.

The left SWS allows access to the following displays in main menu functions:

TRIP

There are 3 independent trip recordings available to view:

The IPC main menu is used to select which trip recording is displayed. The A and B memories can be set independently, while the 'Trip Auto' resets after every ignition cycle as the vehicle moves.

The automatic trip is always available. Previous trips can be added to form a continuous trip recording. Press and release the trip switch on the end of the left steering column switch when the automatic trip information is displayed.

The message center confirms that the previous journey information has been added. Press and hold the trip switch for 3 seconds to add the data.

Press and release the trip switch to delete the previous trip information when the automatic trip information is displayed. The message center confirms deletion of the previous journey data.

Trip A and B can be reset by the driver at any time. Press and hold the trip switch for 3 seconds to erase the previous trip information when the message center displays the required information.

Resetting trip A or B does not affect the other trip information. For example, if trip A is reset, trip B retains its information until it is reset.

OPERATION

MESSAGE CENTER

The messages which can be displayed in the message center are mainly generated from other system control modules.

The majority of messages are requested by system modules and displayed on the message center. The IPC monitors system status through the bus systems and displays system information messages as requested by the controlling module. Other system control modules are also capable of generating messages to display system status. Messages may be accompanied by a chime, which is requested by the control module generating the message and generated by the IPC through the sounder. The sounder is located on the top of the IPC. The chime is dependant on the level or concern of the message.

When a system control module detects a change or a fault which is tagged to generate a message, an electronic signal is sent. The message is sent through the High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network (CAN) systems bus to the IPC, which displays the message. If more than 1 message is requested the message center displays them in order of priority.
